Mark,

Does it have to be "on" the button? You could make a smaller button and put the graduated color image next to the button.

>I was wondering if it were possible to have 2 images on a button. I have 1 image on the buttons already that shows what the button is, a user, invoice etc. what i also want to do is have the button appear in different graduated colours depending on the status, hover, clicked or not active. I can achieve this by having 3 images and on the mouse leave, mouse enter and click events change the image to my graduated images but this means that i lose my discriptive image. any thoughts?
