The application works but to convert it to the C/S (like SQL Server) required tons of rewrite. So when I am going to be create my first .NET winforms app I want to make fewer mistakes.

Dream on .... :o) If you don't make any mistakes, you would be the first. :o) It's part of learning. Also, even a year from now something entirely different will be promoted as a 'best practice' or perhaps even tomorrow...
