>There is an expression about 13th stepping, which means AA members hooking up. You're not supposed to but it happens a lot. It seems to work pretty well from what I have seen. There are several couples in my group and they seem to be keeping each other sober. The one person an alcoholic can't BS is another alcoholic.
Hi Mike,
My daughter, at age 22 after 6 years of narcotics and alcohol issues checked into a resident "cleanup program". She was finally forced to get serious about it when threatened with jail. Judy and I went to court and successfully gained custody of her two daughters, then aged 4 and 1.
Her boy friend also checked in to the same program. We were told by the administrators to NOT expect good results because it is hard enough for one person to get clean, but with two the chances are one will drag the other down.
In our case it was nothing short of a miracle. 20 years later they are married, and clean for 20 years. They still regularly attend and are leaders in their NA group. He has a great job and works hard at his side welding business. She completed college and has a Masters Degree and works for the State as a counseler.
We returned the children to them a couple of years after their resident program completed.
So, it is different for all but we have an example where two addicts can support each other's recovery.
Keep up the good work,
Ken
