If we go back a bit further, we will see that the middle eastern countries were blaming the Americans for most, if not all, of their troubles. The hate of the USA was well established before 'torture' occurred. even to this day, in Iran, the west is being blamed for the election riots. If the hate of the United States had not been established there would not have been the Truck bomb at the Marine baracks in Lebanon, the Embassy explosions, The murder of the US ambassador to Jordan, The PanAm Lockerbee plane explosion, all that Libya did with bombs, The Cole bombing, and the 911 attack on the United States and more. I have no trouble at all understanding how a person or country may employ techniques of great intimidation to extract helpful information. Of course, now that there is a new administration, I'm sure they will sit down with possible information sources and have tea and conversation to find out what might be the next event. If you are still bothered, bring the troops and all their equipment and support home. I'm sure everything will be alright. Don't you?
