I have an application developed in 95 that will be run on machines using 95 but will be run across a Novell network (don't remember which Novell, but it only supports 8.3 names) (hope I'm getting all the terminology right :) ).
I made sure as I developed my application that every file (except maybe the bitmaps... didn't check them as closely) is named with an 8.3 convention. When I used setup wizard to make the disk images I then looked in the subdirectories created and ensured that all the filenames in there were 8.3. I even dropped to DOS (where I would think I'd see the ~1 naming that's used by 95 for long filenames) and none of the names in any of the disk image directories are long.
I'm trying to test installation on a 3.1 machine so that I can test for the 8.3 names. I know my app won't run on it, but it should at least install on it (at least across the network -- running install on my machine and setting the target directory to one mapped to the 3.1 machine). But as I start the install I get an error message box that tells me that the target destination doesn't support long filenames and that I have to run setup with the /F option.
Where are the long filenames coming from? I couldn't find any. Anyone encountered this before and can give me a clue? Would certainly appreciate it.
