No right-thinking person would wish that on anyone. Almost 20 years ago I worked briefly with a fellow, about 30 years old with a similar problem. He had a damaged valve that was randomly throwing clots. One day he lost 30% of the vision in one eye and figured it was time to do something about it. ISTR he got through the surgery OK.
