The mince pies law mentioned (re: Cromwell) refers to his puritanical rules which includes the eating of mince pies at Christmas. Ludicrous when for like 90-odd% people only eat them then (the shops are crammed with them). Mince pies being a rich fruit mix, not meat, of course.

Also cromwell made it illegal to go outside parish boundaries at Xmas. Time of year when most people do, besides summer vacation.

There are also laws re: the times of day when it's legal to beat carpets outdoors, when an ice cream van can sound its chimes, et al.
