I agree with some of what you say. I'm not 100% sure I like WPF yet, but I haven't really jumped into it much yet, so it's hard for me to know how much of what I've seen in the intro type of reading I've been doing is really "best practices" or not. I remember back in the early days of .NET (back in 2002 when I first started) that every book you read (and there weren't many back then) had such elementary concepts in them, that you were better off just not to bother reading them and figure it out yourself.

I'm not saying that's the case with WPF (there are plenty of books and other reading material), but I started with a very elementary book, and consequently I'm not getting the big picture yet. It may look better as I get into it more with more in-depth reading material. I dunno ... we'll see.

What I'm intrigued by right now is Microsoft Surface, and I need to know WPF if I want to write Surface apps. So, now is as good a time as any to jump into the deep end of the pool. <g>
