I use cash as much as I can, mostly for small/frequent purchases under $50 or so. Every time you use debit or credit is a chance you'll encounter a compromised terminal, I consider using cash a front-line defense against identity theft. Cash is also helpful for maintaining privacy. If you use cards for everything, it isn't hard to build a record of your activities e.g.

8:43pm Buying gas at Shell Station#xxxx
9:02pm Buying candy bars and Cosmo magazine at Piggly-Wiggly
