>I don't see these on your list, Tracy, so if you like humour with your mysteries, pick up the books by David Rosenfelt (The Andy Carpenter books) and also the "Solomon vs Lord" books by Paul Levine. Lots of fun.

Yeah, the "Solomon vs Lord" books are a hoot ... although that's lawyer stuff, not detective stuff. Still fun reading and, to be honest Alan, you *did* say "mystery", not "detective". <g>

Another great series in that vein are the "Archie McNally" books by Lawrence Sanders. Archie is an quite an interesting and eccentric character.

>Update: I almost forgot Donna Andrews - either series (the Meg Lanslow series or the Turing Hopper series - the Lanslow series are funnier).

I'll have to look into both of those other authors (Rosenfelt & Andrews). Thanks for the suggestions (even though you were addressing Tracy <g>)

>>>Haven't heard of him, but I'll see if there's any of his books on Kindle and d/l an excerpt for free.

>>>[UPDATE] Actually, there's several of his books available on Kindle. I don't usually read comedies (I prefer detective-type stories and thrillers), but I might read an excerpt just to see. Which of the following do you recommend:
>>>
>>>This Is Where I Leave You
>>>How To Talk To A Widower
>>>Everything Changes
>>>The Book Of Joe

>>Then I take it you haven't read Janet Evanovich's series (1,2,3,etc all in the title) They are the best 'light comedy/detective stories' out there. Really humorous but basically detective stories. She is a bounty hunter. I like to read one light-weight story in between the heavier ones for a change of pace. :o) I haven't been reading at the same pace for the past couple of months. Probably a good thing because I've run out of titles from my favorite authors. I typically read 1-3 books a week, but I've been far too busy lately. Another good one is the Spellman Files series by Lisa Lutz. I think Alan brought those to my attention.

>>Sheesh, that's only some of them... I read a book by a romance author (Shana Abe) on the plane once and it was pretty good so I thought maybe I'd like to read those as well, but I tried a couple more of the same genre and decided that no, I didn't care for romance novels - I just enjoyed the book by that author.

>>I like to read some sci-fi books too, but not as often as mysteries.
