Ok this is to both of you.

This is what I understand:
- I have to set up a dataset with my tables to design the report.
- The dataset wizard does not let me do a select statement so I can't do the join when I'm designing the report.
- The report table requires a link to a dataset which can only be a specific database table otherwise an error occurs if another column from a different database table is added.
- The report table cannot have a blank dataset or the encapsulating dataset that contains all database tables as this throws an error.
- The datasets can have queries attached to them but the report structure must stay the same so therefore joins can't be done at run time.
- Multiple datasets can be added to the report and various fields from different database tables can be displayed in the likes of textboxes.

From the above I just can't see how my required report table from below can be displayed.

Transaction
transID, custRef,

TransactionDetail
detailID, transID_FK, stockID_FK, qty, amount

Stock
stockID, stockRef, stockDesc

The table will display:
transID, stockID, stockDesc, qty, amount

All examples I've come across just have the one database table in the report table and then have textboxes from other datasets to make the statement. I really appreciate you guys helping me out but if this can't be done I need to move on and look at something else.

Oh and do you honestly believe an Irish person would share alcohol? ;) lol
