>>>>>>>>>>That separation is your arbitrary one Peter I don't see it, prostitution is a part of the sex industry.
>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>Arbitrary? Nonsense. Why do you not want to answer my question(s)? Are you afraid that you'll gonna loose this discussion? That you'll have to admit that there is a certain legitimate ground for prostitution? That it's not in all situations a bad thing? Your moves are tactical rather than argumental.
>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>Happy to answer your questions Peter. And you seperation is arbitrary. You've just done it for your own convenience so you can take a very extreme example and use it to justify prostitution. There is no justification. If you can't find a partner for whatever reason get over it. Nobody ever died from not having sex.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>From your answer I draw the conclusion that you oppose any type of prostitution, even what you call the extreme case of a handicapped person who seeks sexual relief. That's a fundamental position. I guess it's your right to take that stance, but not many (here at least) will agree with you and if you'd be the dictator, you'd cause a lot of frustration in certain groups of men. You'd say to those men: Get over it, you won't die of not having sex. You say that far too easy. I also suspect that not-having-any-sex is not one of your own problems. Who are you to decide for other persons what they must endure in this? Isn't the desire for having sex a fundamental drive?! How about the amount of rape? Don't you think it would increase if there were no prostitutes?
>>>>>>
>>>>>>If you look back I'm not pro legislation Peter. Rape isn't about sex its about power and if "certain groups of men" get frustrated then they need help not justification. I'm pretty frustrated that I'm not rich, does that make it ok for me to rob a bank or steal someones wallet..
>>>>>
>>>>>Rape is primarilly about sex. It's about hormone levels, testosteron to name one. It's about the natural drive of a living being that is driven to produce offspring. Prostitution is a fundamental requirement in a civilized society. It enables the members to say to those who are in desperate need: "Well then, go to the whores, but don't you dare to touch my daughter. I'll kill you with my bare hands."
>>>>
>>>>I disagree with a lot of this, but in fact, I mostly disagree that rape is about sex. It's about power and control.
>>>>
>>>>Ok, I went and did some digging to see if I was out to lunch. So, from "Sociology of Rape" - University of Minnesota, Duluth:
>>>>
>>>>Myth: Rape is sex.
>>>>
>>>> Fact: Rape is experienced by the victims as an act of violence. It is a life-threatening experience. One out of every eight adult women has been a victim of forcible rape. (National Victim Center and Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center, 1992) While sexual attraction may be influential, power, control and anger are the primary motives. Most rapists have access to a sexual partner. Gratification comes from gaining power and control and discharging anger. This gratification is only temporary, so the rapist seeks another victim.

>>>>
>>>>Part of the problem with it is that so many people believe that rape is about sex. That just minimizes the horror of it and makes it more difficult to deal with effectively from a legal standpoint.
>>>
>>>For the victim it is, of course, not about sex. (S)he experiences violence and humiliation, to name some. Also, certain types of rapists appear to have more complex 'reasons' for raping. But even then the hormonal level of testosterone may be a crucial factor.
>>>
>>>By the way, my esteem for sociologists is limited to when they analyze sociological factors. What drives the rapist's mind is more the field of psychologists.
>>
>>I don't know where you got this information, but the idea that rape is about sex and procreation is complete nonsense. Peter, please do some research on it before publishing this sort of stuff. Rape is not, I repeat, NOT about sex. Sex is merely the tool that is used by the rapist to humiliate and debase the victim. It's like saying that building kitchen cabinets is about hammers and nails.
>
>There is plenty information on the internet that supports your stance as well as my stance.

Still waiting for your link.

>It is apparently an ongoing battle (in the US), between laymen as well as between scientists.

That battle's been over for years. If the Netherlands still has it's collective head buried in the sand on this issue, then there is nothing I can do about it.

>It is important to realize that such black-and-white phrases like 'rape is about sex' and 'rape is about power' are meant to provoke discussion (among scientists) in the first place. You should not write that I wrote 'complete nonsense' and should have done some research first. Instead, you should have done some research yourself first.

Sorry, I only said that you wrote complete nonsense because you did. If you hadn't I wouldn't have said anything at all. I've done my research, and like I keep saying, I'm still waiting for your link.

Regardless, like I said in the other post, I'm done with this.
