>As much as I dislike Obama, I have to back Peter in this fight. Obama is no Hitler. I think a closer parallel is Mussolini.

>Nazi Germany and German philosophy was a special area of study for me in college - while you can always cherry-pick anything said by Hitler and find a similar "do-good public works" speech by any politician - Obama's fundamental views of government are very very similar to that of Hitlers. Simply because Obama won't gas millions of Jews doesn't mean Obama might not resort to ugly force, if enough productive Americans decide to rebel against self-immolation.

Ah, so you think you are the expert. Well, I propose you do some additional study, since you do not seem to be aware of the essential differences between ideologies like fascism, socialism, national-socialism, democratic socialism and many more ideologies. Let me cite a part of the article John Ryan referenced to: What’s the difference? All that matters is hurling fake historical analogies at the president and hope they stick. Never mind the damage done to political discourse, or the shocking disregard for historical truth. That’s just collateral damage in America’s escalating culture war.

>This notion being promoted by people who don't even LIVE in this country, that those protesting Obama are merely FUD-speakers and right-wing kooks, is perhaps the most perverted part of this entire discussion.

Are you talking here about me? I hope you realize that I live near the center of the region on earth where it all happened. My father's family has been decimated by Hitler. I feel I am obliged to my (still living) father to warn people that they should first think very hard before they decide to use Hitler to demonize a political opponent. I'll do that no matter where people live on earth, even if it happens in the USA.

>Now, the "differences" between socialism/national socialism and fascism are a false dichotomy.

You really don't have a clue what you're talking about.

>Both Hitler and Mussolini came to power by stating their systems were the only choices for their respective countries. The two systems are not opposites - they are two-sides of the same anti-individualism coin....in both cases, it is "man versus state".
>
>Just because one still (in theory) supports private ownership, both still hold omnipotent government and "public good" as the ultimate ideals. And for that matter, even some of Nazi Germany fits more under the Fascist model (the Nazis didn't nationalize Krupp Steel)....but under both models, the government still holds the "right" to do with property as they please, and govt officials hold politico-economic legal power of life or death over citizens.

>So the bottom line...whether Obama shares more fundamentals with Hitler or Mussolini - is far less relevant than the fact that he represents the single biggest threat to individual rights that we've seen in decades.

If there’s no willingness to moderate for the sake of good debate, then I have no willingness to debate at all.
Let's develop superb standards that will end the holy wars.
