It's a mutation of cat distemper and when it first appeared (sometime around 1980/81) we were breeding/selling poodles (no, we weren't a puppy mill). It had a fatality rate of about 80% and it took about 5 years to get the vaccine right because it kept mutating. It was passed in fecal matter and could be walked in from the outside.

Because of this, I have a contact dermititis to Clorox or chlorine bleach - needless to say, indoor swimming pools are my ideal of hell.
