>>>>>>>I started a thread with the title 'About those who allow Hitlerized Obama pictures'. Here, in this thread, my first reaction was about a part of the title that Kevin, the originator, gave it. Herr Barack Hussein Obama. That title is disgusting. Now tell me, do you want to grant Kevin the right to use such words, on behalf of freedom of speech, and do you deny me the right to state that it is disgusting?
>>>>>>
>>>>>>But, Peter, you're missing the point. Kevin has the right to use such words (and neither Tracy nor I can _grant_ him that right, it's a basic right) and you have the right to object. That's how free speech works.

>>>>>Another thought: What is the use of objecting if it is always obstructed with the call for freedom of speech? The ultimate consequence is that it is apparently useless to object and that it is better to keep the mouth totally shut. Was that the ultimate goal of those who fought for freedom of speech?
>>>>>
>>>>>Think of it, is it really a matter of freedom of speech here? Can Kevin call me Herr Peter de Valença, anytime he likes? I might feel offended. If Obama was on this forum, he might feel offended and file a complaint. But Obama isn't here. Does that imply that people here can say about Obama anything they want? I think not.
>>>>
>>>>There are many choices of recourse in this country in case you or Obama are offended. Let me give you a few. First you can pound sand: first with the heel of your left foot and then with the heel of your right foot. If that does not satisfy you, you can jump in the lake. You can jump with your head first or your feet first. And if that does not provide an emotional relieve, you can fly kites. Any color or shape of kites are allowed. You see, there are many choices here in America.
>>>
>>>I laughed so hard at that!!!! :o) Hilarious!
>>
>>I hope that Peter will also take it as a little friendly humor and a relieve from many serious technical and political discussions.
>
>Dmitry, I guess one needs some additional knowledge or idiom to understand the humor. But it's okay.
>
>Sure, it were serious discussions. And I'd like to thank all who participated in a sportive manner. That is, all who reacted with arguments, no matter whether I agreed or not. I learned a lot (about the way Americans think of liberty) and I hope some others here also learned some things. The exception here was William Kuhn, who didn't mind to insult me. That's apparently his idea of freedom of speech, that he's free to denigrate and tell someone to shut up his mouth.
>
>-end of discussion, that is, end of my participation, time for a break ;)

Bill, and everyone else in this country, does have that right. And as has been pointed out by more than one person in the discussion, others have the right to dislike what is said and hold it against the speaker.
