Not sure if this is that bad. It's not like they invite each others to parties and stuff ;-)
What harm can it do to open the door of negotiation just a little bit. It's not because nobody else did it before him that he has do the same. Perhaps those "terrorist nations" could see this as this as the first and only chance they have to stop their actions a graceful way.
I'm sure that there are enough people at the white house following those negotiations to tell president Obama (if he doesn't decide it himself) to close that door eventually.
I guess that this is not a one man show.
