>Honestly, they didn't impact me much outside of "Puff". It seems to me that they were one of these bands that it was cool to say you liked them but no one ever was a hardcore fan. I can't recall anyone ever telling me that this was one of their favorite groups.

Well, the whole folkie vibe was definitely something different in terms of "fans". The albums always seemed to be around, though, and those two cuts still echo around in my head. Just some really nice harmonies. You may be too young <s> to remember them when they were at their peak. (first link is to "A Soulin' " - listen to that one at least - you can skip the first 1:45 )

Remember the Limelighters? Before Glen Yarbrough went off on his own they were really something special. Disappointed that Youtube doesn't seem to have any of the the pre 76 stuff. Would love to see them do "The John Birch Society" or some of their other early stuff.

>>I think my favorite PPM - or at least the one's I can play in my head with the greatest fidelity - are "Johnny's Gone for a Soldier" and "Soulin' "
>>
>>PPM and the Limelighters produced the greatest sounds to come out of that whole genre.

>>>I loved Puff when I was a kid. Sic transit and all that,.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
