>>I never seen anyone offer a way to run VFP under linux without wine, or some VM. However, I understand that it is possible to run VFP in a .Net environment (see other posting for more info) - which means there is a good chance it will run under Mono (Linux's .Net). I'm not saying it doesn't need code changes - it will.

>>Linux is in deed free. Remember Linux is nothing more than a OS. Apps that run on the OS may not be. But there are lot's of them that are free. You need to check the license of each app to determine if they are free or not.
>>
>>However, let me point out that there are lots of cross platform development apps available today. QT scripting, Dabo (python), Lazarus (pascale), Air (adobe) just to name a few of the desktop apps. All have IDE's that work similar to VFP in some fashion.
>>
>>I have been using Dabo for my recent work. I like it because it reminded me of VFP. I do all my development work on Linux and then run on windows. But I also liked Lazarus because it reminded me of Delphi (evens runs much of the same code). The IDE for QT scripting (QTcreator) looks really cool and very complete - haven't use it for anything yet.

>>BTW if you like VB then you will like Gambas (I think they only run on MS and Linux). Also 'free' in the sense you are not required to pay anything.

Keep in mind that IIRC Microsoft VFP license specifies it is to be run on Windows only.
