>Interesting point though Charles. Maybe a damaged President is a better one. Nothing wrong with a little self doubt and something to hide.

I agree about the self-doubt when it comes to making the awesome decisions that are involved in the Presidency. (perhaps that is what Al Gore was offering as a credential when he tried to get Donna Brazil and focus groups to teach him to be an alpha male <s>) but one would hope that as a baseline you have a man who has the personal strength to have his own life together.

As to the something to hide - I disagree. That means looking over your shoulder and engaging in cover ups. Nixon and Kennedy were very good examples. The difference was Kennedy had a more skilled pack of enablers and wasn't around long enough for it to catch up with him. In the climate of today, JFK would have never made it to the White House - Gary Harting out early as he really had some pretty obsessive-compulsive issues that makes Clinton look like Pope Benedict. Bobby maybe. Teddy would have been in jail.

By the way, today's trivia question : know who was godfather to RFKs first child, Kathleen Kennedy?

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
