Oracle still own the DB market and it seems that M$ needs many many years to catch up.


Mo, I don't doubt the raw facts of that article, but they are still open to interpretation - there are a number of reports of companies switching from Oracle/SAP to Microsoft.

The next two releases of SQL Server next year (R2 and then Madison) are going to scale out in terms of 32 terabytes and thousands of terabytes. The acquisition of the DataAllego data warehouse appliance by MS last year sounded a huge bell to the world (acknowledged even by MS critics)

There are a growing # of published reports of large installations moving from Oracle to MS because of ease of use (relative) and cost.

I think if you look at where MS was 2 years ago...and look today....and then 2 years from now...you'll see how far MS is catching up to Oracle.

MS is finally cracking into the public sector - there's new development going on that's using SharePoint 2007 and SQL Server 2005/2008.
