I love the Olympics, along with the other great every-four-years event, the World Cup. But I don't want it here because I don't want Chicago area taxpayers left holding the bag, as I believe has happened everywhere (at least recently) other than SLC.

Rio wouldn't bother me at all because the time zone is not too far off from the time here. When prime time is hours after the events NBC will package the heck out of them until it comes across like a scripted show. Any resemblance to watching a live event is coincidental.

>I spent the bucks and went to a couple of events. Ski jumping and women's speed skating. I don't regret paying $1200 for the 8 tickets. I also went down to Olympic Square in downtown SLC and marvelled at the huge crowds.

>>Possibly the exception that proves the rule but it was definitely a success in every way.

>>I will never think of that Olympics without remembering first Sarah Hughes's stunning, beautiful, joyous performance to win the gold medal in figure skating. She was in fourth place going into the final skate and delivered a performance for the ages. Her age being 16. Scott Hamilton on TV: "Sarah Hughes just brought the house down." It's on YouTube, of course. (What isn't?)
