The test should only verify that ASSERT slows down execution and by which degree. Of course you won't use 100000 ASSERTs in a loop in practice, that's why I talked about a minor slowdown. Your test would additionally meassure the time for the rest od the procedure as well, and of course you get less overall slowdown factor here.
