Not sure, if this would be helpful, but we developed this application using Compact .NET and SQL Server CE and used AutoSync (if I recall correctly) to syncronize between the main database and the database on the scanner.

Also, the article by John Baird with Mobile Orders application was extremelly helpful to develop the application.
