I think they are basically a barcode of the zipcode... so that the machings don't have to do the ocr which is less reliable.

Check out Azeala... They are advertised here on the UT... just watch the banners at the top of the page. They have controlls that create tons of kinds of bar codes.

PS: hey... if you are printing your envelops from the software, you migt even look into the new electronic stamps, too. I am sure your boss would think they are COOL!
