>>Anyone else watch it last night on BBC? Really excellent. I totally disagree with this review (other than the quality of acting which I agree with: it was superb):

I emphasized my comments above. I think it did a great job of demonstrating how stress from combat zones affects soldiers. It also shows how allegiances change with locals. The few comments from the locals were very interesting and pretty accurate in some cases. It was all so hopeless: the companies trying to do a good job rebuilding only to have the locals bomb the new buildings and having to start from scratch. Sending medical supplies only to have them stolen. All occurring over and over again. Then just giving up and sucumbing to greed due to the hopelessness of the efforts. Then there are those whose motivation from the start was greed and some who never attempted to rebuild. The locals having to stand by and watch and do nothing or go with the money as well. Then there are the locals who were out for themselves from the start. All sides are complex and ever-changing. The whole thing is tragic. A lost cause? Worth the effort? Doing more damage than good? What about national security or interests? Which is more important? Too many questions for some folks to answer or even contemplate. I think a longer mini-series that could cover more aspects of the situation (there are many types of folks there and in the west whose experiences should be told or dramatized) would have been even better.
