He's running an MS app on a MS O/S.
To someone who's been using Fox for eons, VS is comparatively opaque (hard to understand intuitively) and unpredictable (it does things you don't expect it to do).
To be fair, VFP was worse in its formative years and VS 2008 is much friendlier than earlier versions.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
