>>I would say there are a LOT more jobs out there. Nobody here is looking for VFP programmers, Its all VB.
There are definitely more VB contracts around here, but there is NO shortage of VFP work. I have more than I can handle, and more lined up when I can handle it.
I've also found that VB contracts aren't paying as much as VFP contracts are. This could be because there are more VB programmers and we're in higher demand, but I like to think that its because an hours work in VFP would take two hours in VB. A good programmer with an established methodology and frameork can crank out high quality apps in a fraction of the time that it would take to build the same app in VB. This is why inheritance is SO important. That one little thing will keep VFP as the more attractive solution to any sizeable project.
> My job is to develop software and If VB is the language that the market wants, then I guess I better learn VB.
When I can make more money with another language because I can be more productive with it, I will leave VFP behind in a minute. I didn't know a damn thing about xBase, much less foxpro a year and a half ago, and chances are decent that something else will come along that I will have to leave VFP for.
>Nothing wrong with learning VB if one has the time.
or any other language. Programmers who refuse to learn different technology because they are 'comfortable' with what they're working with are kicking themselves in the teeth.
