Unfortunately, the SMB2 bugs persist. I have written a program that will reproduce the SMB2 bugs. The included program should be run between 2 Vista computers (one acting as the server and sharing the folder to the second). You should see VFP crash within 30 seconds with index corruption and other miscellaneous errors. Now, turn off SMB2 or switch one of the computers to XP and this same program will run without error.

I forwarded this to Trevor Hancock at Microsoft who used to be our MVP lead many many years ago. This was his response (he gave me permission to post it here):

Hi Marcia,

I am still here, yes. Still supporting the trickle of VFP cases we get, along with VSS and Team Foundation Server. Since this is a Vista bug, Brandon needs to call Vista support, work with the SE he gets to demonstrate that the issue still happens in both Access (does it???) and Fox with Vista SP1, and get them to reopen the bug/get it fixed. Above all, Brandon needs to resist any and all efforts by the Vista support people to punt the case to the Fox or Access teams… ‘cause they’ll try! :-)

Better choice – all of you go get Win7 and forget this all together! <g>

Take care,

Trev
