Hi, I understand it can be confusing, with all the new technologies out there.
First, on the .NET side, get this book:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0137144156/gemotrack4-20/ref=nosimSecond...learn C#, the .NET Framework, and SQL Server 2008. I don't know how much you know in the way of fundamentals with these, but learn the fundamentals first.
Third...hopefully you have a laptop if you're going to head to the local library. I am fortunate that my wife knows my office is just that, my office. But every person is different in that regard...just find something that works for you.
Here's what I teach regarding SQL Server:
- Intro and advanced T-SQL Querying
- SQL Server Integration Services
- SQL Server Analysis Services
- MDX programming (MDX is to OLAP databases, as SQL/T-SQL is to relational databases
- SQL Server Reporting Services
While I still have development projects on the side (.NET and SQL), it doesn't account for much, because I teach so many classes. I incorporate a little bit of .NET into the classes above, but mainly I'm a SQL guy these days.
Not to sound like a salesman, but if you are interested in training, feel free to email me.
