I say rehab facilities don't work because I know so many people who have gone there and remained alcoholics.

I don't know that I could give you an explanation that would make sense to a non-alcoholic. We're just different from normal people. Whether it's a biochemical disorder, I am not qualified to say, but alcohol affects us differently. The key is we can't just have a drink or two and leave it at that. Every single alcoholic I know says they can't stop once they take that first one. As one guy in my group puts it, it's not the last train that gets you, it's the front one.

The reason AA works, at least in some cases, is you are among others with the same affliction. It makes no rational sense to someone without the dependency.

You guys can run me off if you want to. I wouldn't blame you. As Bill said, this is not an AA group. If you care anything at all about me, I hope you don't. I will do my best to tone it down.
