>>>I installed Visual Studio 2008, then the 2010 Beta 2, both of which installed some components of SQL Server. However, I then installed SQL Sever 2005 Developer (I know. I should have installed it first.) and now there is no Menu Item on the Start / Programs menu showing the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.

How exactly did you install it and what did you install? Did you select tools when you were installing it? Do you have ssms at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\Ssms.exe" or at the same place for SQL Server 2005?
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
