>I am sorry. I didn't explain the purpose of the file. The DEV.TXT file is used to trigger the menu when executing the EXE program after compiling. If the file is found, the Main menu will display under the File Menu Item the following, "Exit to FoxPro". (I am using GenMenuX.) When the developer clicks on this menu item, the executable program then exits to the FoxPro desktop, otherwise, your only choice would be to always exit to the Windows desktop. So, if I included the file in the project, it would always be .T.

>Hmmm,... maybe you have something, or maybe not. I'll have to think about that. This has always worked on every machine and operating system I've loaded any of my programs to. I have always used the FILE() function to detect the file's presence and it has always worked, until I loaded my code and ran the program on this one XP machine today. It is bewildering to me why it won't work. Now, it always comes out FALSE, every time, not detecting the file's rpesence, although the path and file name are correct. I really am puzzled by this one. Okay, so maybe it is really a Microsoft bug.

Have you verified (displayed) the full file path and name (in a messagebox) and also have you checked file's attributes and directory attributes?
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
