You have no idea how many times in 25 years of development I'v heard someone say, "If you don't go learn this, right now, you won't be able to find a job.Next year" It's a narrow minded opinion, and I'm surprised Kevin said it. The idea that if I don't get on board with WPF I might now be able to work is rediculous. My worth as a developer doesn't hinge on any one technology or ability. I really hate to get "ugly", but why don't you ask Cecil if he agrees with you.
I know 2 very well known developers...names I will not specifically mention...who thought similar to the way you're thinking....and wound up severely regretting it.
At the very least...if you have decided to be a .NET professional developer....you should be learning WPF and/or Silverlight.
