They work independently fine.
Re-your task: I started Outlook after fresh boot and can create emails without a problem with WORD as my editor. I note in my task manager that Word is not activated during this task so i assume here that WordMail is an integrated program with Outlook and not an independent action.
BTW i went back to the other computer which i am supporting and they have version of Office 2007- this problem
does not occur.
Any help to you?

Hmm, I wasn't asking about opening Outlook and Word separately, are you able to invoke Word from within Outlook i.e.
- start with a fresh boot of your computer
- open Outlook (DON'T start Word separately)
- create a new e-mail
Does the above sequence invoke Word as your e-mail editor, or do you get the same OLE error?

>yes i am able to open Outook AND create word document - yet when i open VFP and generate an email while both are open - Microsoft pops its head telling me it is going to have to close Word. That must be significant clue.

>When i simply run VFP and generate an email - the task manager does not indicate that WORD is even running. SO i suspect from this that the word operation is somehow integrated with Outlook without opening the program independently.

>>i am currently using " Email and VFP: Part 1b (Outlook) " (Craig Boyd) and when Outllook (i am using office 2000) is set to MS Word editor the email generated works first time. subsequent times i get an error message 1429 which reads:
>>
>>"OLE IDispatch exception code 4096 from MS Outlook: MS Wordmail could not be started." Then it asked to close any open dialog boxes in Word (which i suspect were created from the initial email - however there are no open boxes visible nor is the initial email still open). If i disable using Word as editor the problem disappears but i lose the options to embellish the email.
>>
>>Any solutions would be appreciated. Perhaps code for 'closing ms word' would work - how would i do that? Perhaps this problem is specific to office 2000 and later versions have fixed this problem.

>On the same computer that has the problem, are you able to open Outlook, then create a new mail and have Word open successfully as the e-mail editor?

>One thing that happens sometimes is there are orphaned instances of winword.exe and/or outlook.exe left running in Task Manager that have no UI. You have to kill those manually in Task Manager after closing all the visible Office applications.
