I did exactly that ( on Windows 7 RC ) with no problem and then again on Windows 7 ultimate. SQL Server will need SP1 before you can use it ( at least for Win 7 but I'd install it anyway )

Just make sure you go through the install carefully an pick the full install that give you all the tools and BOL.
