I am happy and use 1&1. I also have multiple clients use 1&1 as well. We do not seem to have the problems you mention below. In addition, I have one of their server plans which I am please with as well and I am running my Mere Mortals web application off it. (Not running SQL 2008, though, but I could easily install it if needed).

It appears to be maybe something going on with the hosting provider or some other customer of theirs that must being spamming or something.
