Sorry, did not mean to be cryptic :)

>SELECT() and ALIAS() are both documented as to what happens when nothing is passed. TAG() and DESCENDING() are not. If I read between the lines, I think you are saying that I'm ok assuming the problem is just one of missing documentation. I think that this is the case.

>>This _is_ standard xBAse (think of SELECT,ALIAS etc), if such a thing exists :). So your interrogation boils down to how reliable xBase is. I leave that to you :).

>>>According to help, both TAG() and DESCENDING() require that the NUMBER of the Tag for which you want to find the tagname, or the NUMBER of the tag for which you want to know if it is decending MUST be supplied when calling either function.
>>>
>>>However, in my testing, ? tag() (NO number included) returns the name of the currently selected tag in the currently selected table (just what I want) and ? descending() returns the descending state of the currently selected tag in the currently selected table (again, just what I want).
>>>
>>>Because this activity is undocumented, my question is - Can I trust the behavior that I have seen to be consistant.

If things have the tendency to go your way, do not worry. It won't last. Jules Renard.
