Find a different place to teach. I teach for a private college, and they pay alot more than that. You could work at McDonalds and make $15 /hr.

>I am a conservative in most things, yet I find myself wanting to collect socialist money (unemployment insurance) instead of becoming a substitute teacher, possibly very soon. Why? Because the pay is only $120 per day, if you work the entire day. That translates to only $15 per hour. This new job possibility will also cut into time I need to study .NET deeper, as well as improve my SQL Server skills. What to do? I have another 6 months of unemployment insurance which I can receive.

>Would you accept a job making $15.00 per hour, and have less time to develop .NET skills, or would you forego the part-time job and stay home to study your software of choice, knowing that the pay-off will be much larger than the temporary $15/hour job? And that you'd also learn a lot more quickly by devoting all of your time to that goal.

>Hmmm,...my wife wants me to take the substitute teaching job, no matter the pay, but she was a bit taken aback at how low the pay is, even for California. It does not matter if you even have a Master's Degree in Computer Science, if you are a substitute teacher, you get $15 per hour, and that is all. If there is no work for several days, too bad; it's a temporary job. You lose income fast.

>Although the conclusions to what to do might be logical to some, I am torn as to which direction to go. I'd like to hear others' opinions on this subject.

>The bottom line is that I cannot support my family on that pay. If any FoxPro work comes along, I can collect anywhere between $35 to $50, that is if the market doesn't crash any time soon. These amounts may not sound like much to some of our gurus, but this is where I am at.
