That bothered me too and I don't think that there is a way. Blend doesn't really sound to be a tool for developers. Besides weird behavior like you described it has other quirks like claiming that a perfectly valid XAML is invalid. A simple example would be SL 3 toolkit's autocompletebox (datagrid). Despite all the namespaces are defined and XAML works perfectly under VS it gives invalid XAML in Blend.
(and who in the hell thought of a near black background - and no white choice?).
