I would suggest getting in touch with the manufacturer and seeing if they'll help you out...

You probably have a backup/restore utility? If that utility takes command line parameters, you may be able to run the program from within VFP and still give the user a choice of what to backup/restore. Of course, I have no idea about why you want to access the tape drive...just a few ideas.
