Well I did!!!, and I love it and hate it. :-)
I love it because is not a MS tool, and I'm angry at MS for stopping fox development. But I hate it, because even with the nice IDE it has like Netbeans, Visual Studio still being easier to use and nicer. I don't have to much experience either in both tools (Java and Net), but with Java the development is sooooo slooooowwww, I was used to the productivity of VFP and with Java I need to write hundreds (if not thousands) lines of more code.
I also checked Python, and I loved the language, the only thing I didn't like are the lack of a good Window Designer even in the commercial IDE's available. But even without it, is much more productive than Java.
I'm actually starting to do something I said I never will, I'm reading about VB.Net, since I want something more similar to VFP, and also after learning Java, C# will be easier to pick up, the big learning curve is the Net framework and now I prefer to check VB since is more similar to VFP.
Sometimes I feel like a lost my way, I'm trying bits of everything and not sticking and learning properly one tool. I'll see how it goes with VB and C# for me.
For database back end, I changed from SQL Server to PostgreSQL, and so far everything is simple great. I was happy with SQL Server but for financial reasons we changed, and I don't miss anything (for now)

I never forget a face, but in your case I will make an exception :-)
