I just created a test form, that had the MS Animation control, and a button that contained the following in the click event:

thisform.ocxAVI.AutoPlay = .t.
thisform.ocxAVI.Open(getfile())

It ran with no problems. Are you setting anything else? Using the control's property sheet?
