thanks for your quick reply.

that is a bit more complicated than I need. But, I think what it tells me is that there is no simple way to just unselect everything to start.

In my case, I want nothing selected when I first display the grid, and then highlight things when the user begins selecting. So, the easy thing is to turn highlighting of. And, then back on when he/she selects something.

Let me give that a try.
