Mel,

We are creating entire business applications with Silverlight, with MsSQL backend. The main difference to WPF is, that when you use Silverlight, you do not have all controls available, and you need to use WCF to access the data layer. Check out the Silverlight Toolkit where you find a lot of additional controls that otherwise would not be available in Silverlight, which gives you the power to create any data entry scenario that you can think of.

If you start working with Silverlight now, start with the version 4 beta right away, because there are lots of new features, and it will be released somewhere in march next year.
