My clients only have the UK edition which runs a little behind the US version. I did hear that QuickBooks was ditching it's proprietory database and going with something standard, but not sure where I heard that.

Could you feed your transactions into an update table and write a "QuickBooks Server" app that used a single logon to update QuickBooks? that could keep the connection open (I would recommend a periodic close and open to ensure no data buffering) and update everyones transactions from a single point.

As I said the open/close conection is slow as are large queries, but if you are just updating sales transactions you should be fine.
