In team environments, the only viable layout I found that works is to have a common directory tree where everything that gets into the project(s) resides. And that directory tree is common across machines. On any individual machine the location of this dev root directory can vary, but inside it it is the same everywhere. You may occasionally get a "project has moved" message, which is irrelevant - regardless of whether you update it with the current location or not, it will still build. But it's essential that no files outside of this tree are in any project.
