Did you end your command with + ; ?
If yes, then the next line is going to be a comment too.
Anyway, it's much better for debugging purposes to write your query like
text to lcSQL textmerge noshow
select <<lcFields>>
from ....
LEFT JOIN ...
endtext
lcSQL = chrtran(m.lcSQL, chr(13)+chr(10) + ';',' ')
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
