My goal is to be able to detect idle time in the 2.6 app and if that idle time exceeds n minutes then popup the vfp app until they re-renter the user name & password, similar to a screen saver but only for a particular application. As long as the user is acutally doing something in the 2.6 app, the vfp app keeps resetting the timer.

I believe that if you set up your FP app to function from a foundtation read you can set up a timeout in the read statement that can do what you need. There are examples in the manual on setting up an application to run from a foundation read.
