>>>She already has a level 1 black belt, and is very soon having a test to get level 2. I talked with her about it at the conference, and then she karate kicked me when I tried to hug her. Advice - Don't try to hug Sara Ford. She will hurt you!

>>Her Visual Studio tips book, based on her long running tips online, is terrific. If you use VS with any regularity and were not on the development team at Microsoft I suspect you will learn some shortcuts that will make your life easier. I did not know she is nearing a black belt. Whether she is or looks like Chris Farley, it doesn't matter. Good book.

>>Now here is a thought, in the spirit of the online community. I will send my copy to anyone who would like to read it. All I ask is that you read it, autograph it below mine on the frontispiece, and then mail it along to the list. Sooner or later it will reach Kevin Bacon, LOL. But actually I'm serious. Wouldn't you read a book that has been received, handled, and mailed by the likes of so many here? Think of it as a traveling touchstone with strange power. Just sign your name somewhere and pass it along. Nice.

>Bonnie... You listening?

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Matt. It was one of my occasional good ideas.

Here's hoping that wasn't a shot from you at Bonnie. She stated her opinion against it, from the POV of someone whose name has appeared on published works. (Hiya, Bonnie. That was a stealthy nudge <g>). As did Kevin Goff, the wandering wunderkind. I thought of this as a simple, love-your-neighbor gesture of the type we teach our kids. They presented a different angle on it. Over and done with, no hard feelings.

I still like the thought of the book making its way through the developer world, the signatures accumulating. To me it emphasizes the sense of community.

On a local note for you, I see Mark Ingram won the Heisman Trophy. I watched his acceptance speech online and enjoyed it immensely. You wouldn't exactly call it eloquent but it was from the heart. It is truly amazing that he is the first Alabama player to do so. How many national championships have they won, 10 or so? And yet he is the first to receive this award. The bleeding heart in me is pleased that a black player did it first.
