>>I'm glad you enjoyed it, Matt. It was one of my occasional good ideas.

>>Here's hoping that wasn't a shot from you at Bonnie. She stated her opinion against it, from the POV of someone whose name has appeared on published works. (Hiya, Bonnie. That was a stealthy nudge <g>). As did Kevin Goff, the wandering wunderkind. I thought of this as a simple, love-your-neighbor gesture of the type we teach our kids. They presented a different angle on it. Over and done with, no hard feelings.

>>I still like the thought of the book making its way through the developer world, the signatures accumulating. To me it emphasizes the sense of community.

>>On a local note for you, I see Mark Ingram won the Heisman Trophy. I watched his acceptance speech online and enjoyed it immensely. You wouldn't exactly call it eloquent but it was from the heart. It is truly amazing that he is the first Alabama player to do so. How many national championships have they won, 10 or so? And yet he is the first to receive this award. The bleeding heart in me is pleased that a black player did it first.

>Mike, I'm glad Alabama's star won the Heisman too, but I'll be glad when/if we ever get to the point that we don't consider race in these things. One of the great things about professional sports is that the teams always try to put the best player on the field, irrespective of their color, otherwise, we would have a formula based on population percentages and each team (NFL) would have 13% black players, 3% gay, 20% from California, etc.

Like our colleges and universities admissions? :o) Thank goodness the interpretation of equal opportunity hasn't included "quotas" in sports... I have always been curious how college sports have managed to work outside of their own system...

Lately I have read grumblings of why are there not more latinos and asians in college and professional football? It is disconcerting. If anyone can identify a candidate who clearly excels over those selected, then it would point to clear discrimmination. Until then, it still appears that ability and need are the greatest factors.
